We’re looking for a new host!

We started back in 2011 at C4C a community maker space in King’s Cross,  moving to the Pachube/Cosm/Xively offices on Curtain Road until 2015. We were then hosted by One Fine Stay in Angel till 2018 and came back to our roots in Shoreditch with R/GA hosting us until July 2019!

We now need a new host!

We’re a free to access meetup about the internet of things which, on meetup.com is the 2nd largest community dedicated to IoT. We’ve never charged for access and get between 40 and 60 attendees at our meetups.

Our sponsor Balena helps us cover the cost of an amazing spread of food we bring in, Alex’s time in organising it and the domain related costs for this website and important resource for the community.

Access & security

As a host, we would need you to provide us with a space which is easy to access with a minimum of security requirements. Meetup.com does not provide us with very good quality data on our attendees (often a single letter for a first name and no last name and never any email addresses) and getting badges done is extremely wasteful. We let people fill in their first name on a sticky label and tick their name off our list. We can provide someone who will do that at your reception/entrance if need be by hiring someone from a staffing agency.

Catering

We will be providing our own choice of food so we need a host who can accommodate this and doesn’t have complex catering teams who won’t accept a food delivery.

It would be great if you have a kitchen area we can take advantage of and a couple of tables where we can lay out food.

The space

In an ideal world, the space is not an amphitheatre. Amphitheatres aren’t great for accessibility. The mood and engagement really changes when a speaker is on a stage. People check their phones and totally disengage. We prefer theatre style setups with about 40 seats in an open space with a projector and an HDMI cable at the back. Screens are too small for people to see at the back and closed meeting rooms means there’s a lot of coming/going while speakers talk which is distracting.

Location

It would be great if you were located in East or Central London walking distance from a tube stop!

We’re pretty flexible though so if you think you’ve got just the space for us, email Alex at alex at designswarm dot com and she’ll get back to you!
